The chronicle of Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Being the first Guru of Sikhs, Guru Nanak Dev Ji is the founder of Sikhism. He was involved in establishing major world religions through their teachings. He is the last in the series of the greatest fortunetellers born upon the earth and yet led a very simple life. He has spent his life in preaching various ways to find God through purity and communal responsibility

He was the single son in the family and was born 1469 in Rau Bhoi di Talwandi village, which is now called Nankana Sahib. It is situated forty miles away from Lahore, Pakistan. His father’s name was Kalayan Das Mehta and he worked as a collector. His mother’s name was Matta Tripat and his older sister was called as Bibi Nanki.

Among the Sikh 10 GurusGuru Nanak Dev Ji was the first guru who was born in the human form. At a very early age, he started showing a major interest in spirituality. He became familiar with the teachings of Islam and Hinduism both. He met pandits and molvis of both the religions to know the precise things. During this process, he developed a sort of revulsion by the artificial and superficial methods of achieving the God. He questioned the efficacy of their religious practices. When he was asked by his elders to wear the sacred thread, he clearly refused. He said this thread can break and could be tainted with impurities, he would rather prefer to wear God’s name in his heart.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji has lived extraordinary yet troublesome times. When people of the Indian subcontinent were blindly following the superficial aspects of both Hindu and Muslim religions, very few people thought that Guru Nanak's teachings would attract others. But he was successful in culminating in the formation of a new religion.
